Hammock Task Widget
A hammock task is a task which spans the entire duration of a phase or project, such as a "Project Management" task. In Microsoft Project, there is no "clean" way to get a hammock task's duration to automatically adjust as the phase or project's duration changes...until now.
The Hammock Task Widget from Project Widgets will automatically calculate a hammock task's start date, finish date, and duration at the click of a button.
Here's how it works:
- In your project plan, apply the view "Hammock Task View from Project Widgets".
- In the column "Task UID Driving Start of Hammock Task", enter the Task Unique ID of the task which drives the start date of your hammock task. For example, in the project shown below, the start date of the task "Manage Phase One" is driven by the task "Analyze".
- In the column "Task UID Driving Finish of Hammock Task", enter the Task Unique ID of the task which drives the finish date of your hammock task. For example, in the project shown below, the finish date of the task "Manage Phase One" is driven by the task "Implement".
- Click the "Calculate Hammock Tasks" button, and the duration for each hammock task in your project is automatically calculated. Each hammock task in your project will be displayed with a green Gantt bar.
